چکیده
Cognitive neuroscience has gained significant insight into the mechanisms underlying mental lexicon and their impact on second language vocabulary learning. However, relatively little effort been put understanding how these may instructional practices. We attempt to bridge this gap. Towards that end, we first describe three main properties of lexicon: words have distinct form meaning representations; representations are organized in multilingual network structures by similarity; differ strength. Next, translate a visual framework use reflect upon knowledge affects important choices instruction: composing word lists, selecting an instruction method, consolidating newly acquired words. Lastly, discuss opportunities for both science practice, highlighting importance improving ecological validity scientific models theories, developing methods grounded cognitive science.

Grounded semantics is typically learnt from utterance-level meaning representations (e.g., successful database retrievals, denoted objects in images, moves in a game). We explore learning word and utterance meanings by continuous observation of the actions of an instruction follower (IF). While an instruction giver (IG) provided a verbal description of a configuration of objects, IF recreated i...

IN THE PAST FEW DECADES, COMPUTER-ASSISTED LANGUAGE Instruction (CALI), or Computer-Assisted Language Learning (CALL), has been of interest because of its potential for providing individualized instruction. Interactivity between the computer and the learner is one of the important elements in CALI. Compared to a traditional textbook or workbook, a CALI program can provide immediate feedback on ...

متن کاملForm–meaning Mapping in Vocabulary Acquisition in a Second Language
The mapping of lexical form to meaning is an important part of vocabulary acquisition in a second language (L2). This study examines the proposition that L2 lexical forms are often mapped to the existing semantic content of their first language (L1) translations rather than to new semantic specifications of their own. Native and nonnative English speakers were asked to perform two semantic judg...
